What did you do in lab today? Did a mini scale of planets in relations to the sun What was the big question? What does a scale model of our solar system look like? a very small reduced version of the solar system and even then our tiny scale spread way outside the classroom.   What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? did not attend discussion this weel   Read the online textbook, chapter 1:  https://pressbooks.uiowa.edu/methodsii/chapter/earth/ Links to an external site. What did you learn? there is a distance of 9 million years between the creation oaf earth and the big bang theory   What was most helpful? the pictures of the size comparison of the planets.   What do you need more information on? how the sun is considered an average sized star 5. What questions, concerns, and/or comments do you have?none

Science Two Week Five

What did you do in lab today? today in lab we talked about the test- downloaded and practicing with lockdown browser for the quiz and the test review that going to be sunday. we each presented our groups presentation and took notes on the slides as well as answered questions at the end of everyone's presentation What was the big question? no big question listed   What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? theres is only 6 peoples who job it is to look out for earth killer meteorites. the military thought star wars actually created some of the stuff they cgi. galaxies contain 200 billion stars. there are over 2 trillion galaxies. there were two black holes smashing into each other right now. Read the online textbook, chapter 1:  https://pressbooks.uiowa.edu/methodsii/chapter/earth/ Links to an external site. What did you learn? I learned that theres three different types of galaxies, spiral, elliptical and irregular. What was most helpful?I think all the fun facts li...

Science Two Week Three

What did you do in lab today? we only see one side of the moon. we did an expieriment with flour and coco powder to try and explain why one side of the moon has a lot of texture and dark spots and the opposing side does not   What was the big question?  What are the phases of the Moon and why do they occur? new, cresent, quarter, gibbous, full How does the Moon affect life on Earth? the moon effects the tides and helps the earth stay on its axis. Why does the moon have two very different looking sides? one side has thicker crust and the other side has thinner crust causing dark indentations on the thinner side when astroids collide with the moon What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? There is a thickness difference on the sides on the moon. more magma is able to escape on one side making the dark spots we see on the moon. moon formed from theia colliding with earth and some of both thea and earth went out to form the moon Read the online textbook, chapter 1:...

Science 2 Week 2

What did you do in lab today? No lab this week due to holiday What was the big question?  How did the Space Race shape our understanding of space and technology?  it shaped our understanding of space and technology due to being able to set things up like satellites.  What are the major milestones in human space exploration? 1957 Sputnick orbits earth, 1958 us launches explorer 1 which discovered van allens belt, 1959 soviet unuion lanches first ship to reach the moon, 1961 Yuri Gagaron from the soviet union becomes first human in space and shortly after the US sends Alan Shepard, 1962 John Glen is the first person to orbit the earth. 1968 apollo 8 becomes first crewed aircraft to orbit the moon, 1969 Apollo 11 becomes first ship to land on the moon, 1972 Apollo 17 was the last time humans landed on the moon.  How have different people contributed to space science? Dr. Van Allen created the radiator detector in the ship that discovered van Allens belt. A gro...

Science Methods 2 Week 1

What did you do in lab today? Today in lab we talked about how the earth rotates and orbits the earth. We took a pre test about what we knew about the way that earth orbits and our distance from earth to things like the clouds, moon and stars.   What was the big question? -the sun is at the center of the solar system, -the earth orbits the sun, the moon orbits earth, the moon does not create its own light just reflects light off of the sun which cause moon phases. - the sun creates shadows, depending on what hemisphere your in depends on which way your shadow faces, in iowa your shadow always faces north. eclipses occur when the moon fully blocks the sun in orbit or when the earth fully blocks the moon. equinox happens when the sun is directly in line with the equator. depending on where we are in relation to the equator and what time of year it is effects the amount of daylight we have and the tempature outside.   What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? Today in...

Sun, Earth, and Moon

The phases of the moon occur because of the way that earth rotates while is orbiting around the sun, we get different views of the moon witch is sometimes slightly shadowed making crescent moons what causes the seasons is the earth spinning while we orbit the sun, when the part of the earth we live on is closer to the sun it's hotter in weather.  a lunar eclipse is when the moon shadows the sun.
